Woman pays $404 for a cheesecake with a slice missing! |

Sounds amazing doesn't it?? Hard to believe someone would pay over $400 for a cheesecake with a slice missing!! But, this wasn't just any cheesecake - this was the winner of the Rawsome Pie Contest at the 2002 Festival of Raw & Living Foods held in Portland, Oregon, August 24. The pie was judged by internationally known chefs, Chad Sarno, Juliano, Victoria Boutenko, Cherie Soria, and last year's pie contest winner, Sergie Boutenko.
After a spirited bidding war Katherine Clark emerged the proud owner of the grand prize-winning cheesecake. Her determination won her the right to pay a record $404 for the award winning New York-style (uncooked, nondairy) Strawberry Cheesecake, made by Dylan Fussel. The distinguished panel of celebrity chefs, in a blind judging, selected Dylan's beautifully presented delicious entry as the grand prize winner. Dylan is a recent graduate of the Living Light Culinary Arts Institute, directed by master raw vegan chef, and author, Cherie Soria.

First prize for the winning contestant was $100 in cash and a scholarship, valued at $390, to Living Light Culinary Arts Institute's entry level course, FUNdamentals of Living Foods. Since Dylan had already attended the course (and obviously learned his lessons well), the scholarship will allow him to attend advanced Living Light trainings.
The proceeds of the auction went to the Festival of Raw and Living Foods Association, Inc. a not-for-profit organization that produces the festival. Next year Dylan will offer a culinary demonstration of his award winning $404 New York-style (uncooked, nondairy) Strawberry Cheesecake at the Festival.
