2003 Rawsome Pie Contest

Oregonian Summer Dream Cake raises $215 at the 2003 International Festival of Raw & Living Foods Rawsome Pie Competition!

This year's winning entry raised $215, even with a slice missing. This wasn't just any cake—this was the winner of the Rawsome Pie Contest at the 2003 Festival of Raw & Living Foods, held near Portland, Oregon, August 24.

The pies were judged by internationally known chefs, Karen Parker, Chad Sarno, Sergie Boutenko (2001 pie contest winner), Valya Boutenko, and Cherie Soria.

The distinguished panel of celebrity chefs, in a blind judging, selected René Archner's Oregonian Summer Dream Cake as the grand prize winner. René came all the way from Kongsberg Norway to enter his award winning entry. The recipe for the cake came to René in a dream and it was made with fresh Oregon wild Tibetan blackberries—hence the name, Oregonian Summer Dream Cake.

First prize for the winning contestant was $100 in cash and a scholarship, valued at $390, to Living Light Culinary Arts Institute's entry level course, FUNdamentals of Living Foods. The proceeds of the auction went to the Festival of Raw and Living Foods Association, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that produces the festival.
