This year's winning entry raised a record $575, even with a slice missing. This wasn't just any cake—this was the winner of the Rawsome Pie Contest at the 2004 Festival of Raw & Living Foods, held near Portland, Oregon, August 21. The Rawsome Pie Competition was once again coordinated by Living Light director, Cherie Soria. The esteemed panel of culinary judges also included chefs Chad Sarno, Victoria Boutenko, Kristin Suratt, and Nomi Shannon. |
The distinguished panel of celebrity chefs, in a blind judging, selected René Archner's Blueberry Love Cake as the grand prize winner.

Cherie Soria presents $1,500 to the association directors Linda Simon and Victoria Jayne, who put their lives on hold to make the festival happen. It's a tremendous amount of work and they did it with love and grace. They deserve all our thanks for keeping the vision alive! |
First prize for the winning contestant was $100 in cash and a scholarship, valued at $440, to Living Light Culinary Arts Institute's entry level course, FUNdamentals of Living Foods. The proceeds of the auction went to the Festival of Raw and Living Foods Association, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that produces the festival.
